The Tern Quick Haul Long has landed at Lug+Carrie

Blink and you’d think it was a GSD, the much-anticipated Tern Quick Haul Long has arrived at Lug+Carrie. We are PUMPED! This seriously capable eBike has all the perks of Tern and Bosch, but at the lower price point of $5995.

Till now, riders looking at mid-priced cargo eBikes have compromised on motor and battery quality, as well as carrying capacity. But, with its Bosch Cargo Line motor and 190kg Max Weight, this eBike is high quality without the price tag.

Here are some of its standout features…

Heavy hauling for you and up to two passengers

The same length as a GSD, the Quick Haul Long fits all the same accessories for you and two passengers. Whereas the GSD can carry up to 100kg on the rear rack, this bike can carry up to 90kg. That’s still a fairly sizeable adult on the back, an adult and a kid, or two kids. So many combos.

With a Maximum Gross Vehicle Weight (MGVW) of 190kg – only slightly less than the GSD’s 200kg – you can haul some serious cargo too. MGVW refers to the total weight that the eBike can safely carry without affecting performance and long term wear and tear. MGWV is made up of the weight of the eBike, accessories, passengers, cargo and anything like a trailer.

A Quick Haul Long weighs just shy of 27kg. So with a 70kg rider for example, you’ve got a bit more than 90kg left for accessories, passengers and cargo.

Lighter on your wallet

The Quick Haul Long is the most budget-friendly Tern eBike for two passengers. Prices for a Quick Haul Long start at $5995, compared to $7995 for a GSD.

There are a lot of similarities between the two eBikes such as the ability to carry two passengers. They’re both kitted out with Bosch Cargo Line motors and batteries, and they fit many of the same accessories. With the GSD you’re paying extra for some premium features such as front suspension, 10kg additional MGVW, room for a 2nd battery, foldable handlebars and integrated side decks. This makes the GSD more suited to people wanting to lug more, ride further or on bumpier terrain. The foldable handlebars on the GSD mean you can pop it in the back of a mid to large sized SUV for transportation. The side decks are a comfort feature for passengers to rest their feet on.

Compact, versatile, easy to ride

Something we love about all Terns is their features that make them compact and versatile. The Quick Haul Long is no different. Despite its hauling capacity, this eBike is the length of a regular bike so it is very easy to manoeuvre around. The handlebars and seat post adjust with the flick of a lever too. This makes it very is very easy to share with your partner, family member or housemate. It also stores vertically so you can keep it in smaller spaces like apartments or small garages.

Like other Terns, the Quick Haul Long has small wheels and a low step through frame. This makes it really easy to balance and get on and off, even when you’re loaded up with passengers and cargo. These thoughtful features make the Quick Haul Long perfect for anyone from new to experienced riders.

eBike afficionados are as pumped as we are…

When Tern announced the Quick Haul Long a couple of months ago, there was a fair amount of excitement in the industry. Here’s what some well regarded eBike people had to say about it…

“Tern’s new Quick Haul Long is the best-priced midtail cargo bike that can truly hold 2 child seats, the reliable Bosch eBike system with 85Nm of torque, and great accessories.”

BIKE SHOP GIRL

“There has been a growing separation between ‘premium’ and ‘budget’ midtail cargo bikes. The budget cargo bikes often have hub drive motors or underpowered mid-drive eBike systems with 1 or 2-year warranties, while the more affordable premium options have a low rear rack weight limit. Today, Tern launched the Quick Haul Long midtail cargo bike to help the market reimagine what an affordable yet reliable cargo bike can be.”

EBIKETIPS

“Tern’s electric cargo bikes have always been known for two things: high-quality heavy-hauling designs and relatively smaller footprints, at least as far as cargo e-bikes go. Years ago, the company basically invented the compact cargo e-bike category. […] Now, with the new Tern Quick Haul Long, the company is finally filling out in the length department with its lower cost model, while still incorporating more of the size and capabilities of its longer GSD model.”
