An eBike is just like a regular bike, but it includes an electric motor that is powered by a rechargeable battery. The motor provides pedal assistance, which makes carrying a large load, heading up hills, or riding into the wind (or all of the above) a lot easier.

Lug+Carrie eBikes have four different levels of pedal assistance, which allow you to get as much or as little help as you want. The motor makes it easy for you to carry loads like kids or groceries, or to get where you’re going without getting overheated and sweaty. Ultimately, eBikes help you to do more, ride more, and ride further.

Yes! All Lug+Carrie eBikes meet all local and international standards for power, speed and pedal assistance. 

The maximum assisted speed of all our eBikes is 25km/h. All our eBikes are pedal assist only and do not have throttles. 

The maximum continuous power output of all of our eBikes is 250 watts.

Melbourne already has the reputation of being a cycling city and for good reason! With separated cycleways and quiet streets right under your nose, it’s easy to skip the traffic.

But, if you’re new to two wheels we know you might be wondering where to start.

For customers who live within 25km of our Melbourne store, we include:

• Free delivery at the start of each subscription and pickup at the end.
• Free on-site servicing, where we make minor repairs at your house, while you wait.
• Free delivery and pickup for any service that needs to be completed at our shop.

And, for those who are beyond 25km from our shop in Melbourne, you may still able to get a subscription, however, there are a some differences:

• we will quote a price for deliveries and pickups based on where you live.
• we do not offer on-site servicing.
• we will need you to bring your bike to our shop at least once a year for regular maintenance.
• bike and accessory swaps will be completed at our shop.

Right now, yes, you can take your Lug+Carrie eBike on Melbourne trains. Many of our customers use this as a way to break up a longer commute. 

There is a lot of talk right now about eBikes on public transport and the Victorian Government is currently reviewing and updating their public transport and safety rules. They do this every ten years and the existing rules are due to expire in 2025.

The government invited feedback on their proposal to limit eBikes and scooters on public transport and submissions closed on the 18th of August. 

Lug+Carrie is working with leading industry bodies to help the Vic government understand and enforce smart rules. We believe regulations should focus on proper certification, not a blanket ban that would penalise responsible riders.
