Sydney school holiday rides: top 5 family adventures by eBike

Sydney’s a pretty good place to be. And, its mix of stunning harbour views and huge parklands makes it a killer spot for a family eBike ride on your Lug+Carrie. Ditch the car and make the journey part of the fun. Here are five of the best places you can ride to with the kids these school holidays, including a couple of hidden gems you might not know about!

Sydney Park-to-Park

Start with a picnic at Centennial park before loading up and rolling on over to Sydney Park. Sydney Park has a dedicated cycling centre and a fantastic “learn to ride” track with mini roads and traffic signs, which is great for building confidence. The Lug+Carrie Rider Network is full of tips on how to carry or tow kids’ bikes on your Lug+Carrie, why not jump in? After the track, hit up the Sydney Park playground—an award-winning space with bridges, slides, and tunnels that’ll keep the kids busy for hours. Our Sydney Park-to-Park route includes a stop for a cheeky coffee at the Grounds of Alexandria in between.

Street Libraries Stanley to Newtown

There’s nothing better than that wholesome feeling of spotting a community library while you’re out and about. And, there are plenty to spot between Stanmore and Newtown on this ride through the inner west and Middle Earth. The path takes quiet back streets, but there are no separated cycleways so this one might be for a more confident rider. Grab some books to take home for some school holiday quiet time.

Cycle to a dreamy picnic at Parramatta Park

Escape the city hustle with a bike ride to historic Parramatta Park. The Parramatta Valley Cycleway is a fantastic, mostly off-road shared path that follows the Parramatta River. The journey itself is a beauty, but the destination is even better. The park has sprawling lawns for a picnic, duck ponds to visit, and the huge Domain Creek Playground, which has flying foxes, climbing walls, and water play areas.

From the airport to a hidden gem at Cooks River Cycleway

This is one of Sydney’s best kept secrets. The Cooks River Cycleway stretches for about 12km, offering a proper ride that feels a world away from the city chaos. Start near the airport and treat the kids to a surprisingly cool view of planes taking off and landing from up close. Follow the flat, scenic path as it meanders along the river, with plenty of little parks and picnic spots along the way. It’s a great ride for a day of discovery, ending up in a quieter part of the city.

Ride to a lakeside adventure at Narrabeen Lagoon

Forget the crowds at Manly Beach and head a little further north for a real adventure. The Narrabeen Lagoon Trail is an 8.6km loop that takes you on a stunning ride around the lake. You’ll pedal along a mix of sealed paths, boardwalks, and gravel trails, passing through beautiful coastal wetlands and forests. The views are incredible, with heaps of wildlife to spot along the way. Finish up back where you started for a well-deserved snack and a pat on the back.
