At 75, age really is just a number for Lug+Carrie customer Jennifer. Having ridden another eBike for a number of years, Jennifer knew that upgrading to a more comfortable ride was going to be a worthwhile investment. In September 2024, with the help of the Lug+Carrie Sydney team, Jennifer bought the Lug+Carrie ‘Easy Rider’ – the Tern NBD with Tern Hauler rack.
The NBD is Tern’s most ‘accessible’ eBike. With an incredibly low step frame and small wheels, it’s very easy to get on and balance for smaller or more mature riders. Jennifer immediately felt safer on the Tern NBD, “probably because of the smaller wheels and the fact I can easily put my feet to the ground,” she says.
Alongside her 82 year old cycling companion, Jennifer rides nature trails for recreation regularly, “I don’t have to ride to work anymore but love getting out on my Tern bike and really enjoy our bike paths and rail trails here.”
The things Jennifer loves most about her ride…
“I feel really safe on the NBD with the low step through frame and I love other features like Turbo mode for when I am getting tired. Once I change down gears and power up to Turbo, riding up a hill is easy!
“I also like that the tyres are wider than my older bike, so they are better for unsealed sections. The controls are easy to use and brakes are excellent,” Jennifer says.
“The back light comes on automatically so I am visible and there is a front light available if needed. The handle bars and seat are adjustable without having to get tools out,” she adds.
“I’ve added some accessories too. Firstly the Tern hauler rack on the front to which I attach a small zip bag with velcro strips where I keep my keys and phone. I use the Relive app so I stop to take photos and videos on my phone and post my rides on Relive.” (Check this one out on our Rider Network).
“My eBike already has a rack on the back and here I have a small bag to carry a wind jacket, neck scarf and bottle of water.”
“I bought a ‘Mirrycle’ mirror so I can see cars approaching from behind, it has been a great addition. For extra security, I bought an Apple tag and hid this in the bell. So, if it ever got stolen, I would be able to track it,” Jennifer explains.
And, her final piece of advice?
“Please encourage your older friends and parents to get an eBike! There is no way I could walk the paths that I regularly ride with my friend. I would miss the incredible view and nature makes us feel so much better.”
